May we suggest . . . PILGRIMAGE |
|
Christian living is a pilgrimage in which our journeying in life begins and ends in God as revealed to us in Jesus Christ. God is both source and destiny. The journey includes times when we do not experience God's presence. We may even avoid it. But the journey also includes times when we are very aware of a longing within us to know this presence, very conscious of a desire to be in pilgrimage. People who participate in Pilgrimage are persons who, as Christian pilgrims in life's journey, consciously desire to cultivate that which enables the holy in their humanity. Registration form here. What is Pilgrimage? God's Spirit is moving among us powerfully and Pilgrimage offers a way for persons to heighten their sensitivity and responsiveness to God. Here is an opportunity for persons to pause in the midst of their busy lives to praise and glorify God. Here is a source for the renewal of our call and commitment to faithfulness and Christian vocation. Pilgrimage is a series of three retreats for discovering and deepening our sensitivity to God's presence in our lives, sharing our journey with others, and strengthening our discipleship in the world.
|
Who can participate? Groups from local churches participate in Pilgrimage. While it is quite true that one person from a local church could benefit from the experience, the Pilgrimage format is based on the notion of back-home companion groups, which continue to meet in between and after each of the retreats. The ideal size of a local-church group is four or five persons. It may be that two or three nearby local churches will want to cooperate in forming a back-home companion group if that is a more feasible way to proceed. |
Retreat 1 helps you develop greater sensitivity to God's presence. It introduces some basic spiritual disciplines to nurture your relationship to God. Retreat 2 provies you with additional tools, and introduces the discipline of solitude, an 18-20 hour time of "silent with-ness." It also explores the concept of vocation in relation to our discipleship. Retreat 3 reflects on God's presence in the ordinary and offers experiences with the arts as spiritual disciplines.

Where is Pilgrimage held? How long are the retreats? What are the costs? What do I bring? Meals will be provided.

Pilgrimage is a wonderful tool for discerning one's spiritual calling, whether it be to more disciplined faith practices or further service in the church. |
